Meaningful learning with technology
A Simple Guide to Online Teaching>Meaningful Learning
Five characteristics of meaningful learning:
- Active
- Constructive
- Authentic
- Cooperative
- Intentional
- Learners should play an active role in the learning process by exploring, solving problems, and completing tasks rather than receiving presented information passively.
- Learners should build up their own knowledge by making connections with their prior knowledge and making sense of the environment around them.
- Learners should be given real-world problems in classrooms. In this way, they can be involved in problem-solving more effectively and put their knowledge into practice in their daily lives.
- Learners should participate in group works and share their knowledge with their peers. Through cooperation, they should complete given tasks.
- To guide the learning process properly, goals must be set for each individual learner so that they would not get lost in the process.
